Abstract

1520269 Monitoring fluid-flow MANNIN INDUSTRIES Ltd 8 Dec 1976 [9 Dec 1975] 50344/75 Heading G1N A fluid-flow monitoring device is incorporated in a standard coupling or other fitting forming part of a circuit carrying the fluid. As shown, Fig. 1, a stud coupling 10 for connecting two sections of conduit carries a turbine rotor 14 on a ring 17 which is axially located by an insulating sleeve 18 in an aperture 19 in an externally hexagonal part 11 of the coupling 10. The sleeve supports a triangular electrode 24 which co-operates with the rotor 14 to produce a cyclically varying capacitor, the capacitance varying from minimum to maximum value at cut-off with one direction of flow and vice versa. The transducer assembly is coupled via terminal assembly 27 which screws into sleeve 18 to equipment which senses the capacitance variation and lights a selected lamp in accordance with the flow direction. The frequency of the capacitance changes is also measured and indicates the fluid-flow rate.
