Abstract
1520041 Cleaning gas H HOLTER 3 Feb 1976 [6 Feb 1975 28 Feb 1975 6 March 1975 (3) 7 March 1975 2 May 1975 26 June 1975] 4112/76 Heading C5E Gas produced by the gasification of coal with air and/or steam is cleaned by washing with an oil which is continuously circulated in a closed circuit and solids and tars are continuously removed from the oil and returned to the gasification. The gas is washed with portions of coal tar oil at 2,3 and 5 and a stream containing tar and solids is separated from the oil at 8 and can be treated in distillation tower 12 prior to recycle of tar and solids to the gasification. The gas can be cooled at 1 (e.g. from 550‹ C. to 300‹ C.) by indirect heat exchange with a heating oil which delivers heat to the distillation unit 12, to a reheater 7 for the cleaned gas and to a boiler 19 or by washing with coal tar from which heat is removed by heat exchange at 30 and 31 with the heating oil. Hydrogen sulphide can be removed from the gas by a powdery hydrogen sulphide absorbent which is either added at 23b and removed at 25 or is added along with the washing oil at 5 and removed at 6. centre and a hole in the external surface communicating with the void centre. The amphora particles can be prepared from a slurry containing alumina; cobalt and molybdenum compounds are either incorporated in the alumina slurry or impregnated into the amphora particles. The amphora catalyst can have a diameter of 1À5-4À0 mm and can be used in a fixed bed at 200-600‹ C. and up to 10,000 psig. In Examples, sulphur is removed from a catcracked 191-427‹ C. gas oil, and a 193-263‹ C. straight run kerosene and sulphur and nitrogen are removed from a 204-549‹ C. vacuum gas oil.
