Abstract

There are prepared compounds of the general formula <IMAGE> in which R1 denotes a primary or secondary alkyl radical which is optionally substituted by alkoxy or aryl, or a cycloalkyl radical and R2 is equal to R1 and, in addition to tertiary alkyl, denotes alkylthioethyl, alkanesulphonylethyl or cyanoalkyl, by reaction of quinoline with an up to 10-fold excess of an alcohol of the formula R2OH and an at most stoichiometric amount of an appropriate chlorocarbonic acid ester in the presence of an aqueous inorganic neutralising agent at a temperature between -10 DEG and +20 DEG C and a pH of 7-10. Good yields are obtained in the process according to the invention, although it is carried out in the presence of water. Products prepared by the process according to the invention are effective as tranquillisers.
