Abstract
151,988. Barbet et fils et Cie, E. Oct. 1, 1919, [Convention date]. Column stills and rectifiers.-The plates A, Fig. 2, of a column still or rectifier are formed with transverse ridges B between the openings E for the passage of the vapours. Transverse hoods F which cover the openings carry perforated plates G of copper, gun metal, phosphor-bronze, porcelain or earthenware, which rest on the ridges B and when in position form a horizontal perforated surface. When the pressure in the still falls, liquid passes through the perforations into the depressions between the ridges. A cooling- coil H may pass between the hoods and be attached to the perforated plates. The plates A may be made of lava, the depressions B being chiselled out and the hoods secured to the plates by joints sealed with sulphur or with a cement consisting of sodium silicate and asbestos powder. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes also that in columns made of ceramic materials or lava for treating acid liquors, round hoods F, Fig. 4 (Cancelled) formed with flat circular perforated collars G may be used. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
