Abstract

1519773 Dynamo electric machines SEALED MOTOR CONSTRUCTION CO Ltd 21 Oct 1975 [25 July 1974 23 Oct 1974] 32973/74 and 45953/74 Heading H2A A refrigerant compressor comprises a sealed housing 10 containing a refrigerant pump 16 and a planar air gap induction motor 18 where rotor 44, 46, 48 is drivably coupled to the pump. The motor rotor may be of the Ferraris disc or squirrel cage type and may be mounted below or, as shown, above the stator 50, 52. The rotor drives the pump piston 24 through a Scotch yoke connection. The lower half of the housing forms a reservoir for lubricating oil. This oil may be drawn up inside a hollow shaft of the rotor and then fed through to a helical groove on the exterior of the shaft at the level of bearing 40. Alternatively, as shown, the low pressure gas may be passed through a conduit 56, oil being drawn into the conduit by the Venturi effect at 60, droplets of oil then dropping from the exit 58 of the conduit 56 on to the Scotch yoke.
