Abstract

1519539 Removal of H 2 S and SO 2 from gas GTE LABORATORIES Inc 23 Dec 1976 [24 Dec 1975] 53967/76 Heading C1A A gas stream containing H 2 S and SO 2 is passed through a chamber containing a catalyst of formula ÀxLa 2 O 3 yCO 2 O 3 where x and y vary independently from 1-3, at 175-450‹ C. to produce elementary sulphur and water. Air or oxygen may be added to the gas stream to adjust the ratio of H 2 S to SO2 to 2:1. The catalyst may be treated with carbon monoxide or hydrogen prior to contact with the gas stream. The catalyst may be a derivative of the compound, of formula xLa 2 O 3 y CO 2 O 3 , prepared by exposure to said gas stream containing H 2 S and SO 2 and/or by prereduction with CO 2 or H 2 .
