Abstract

1518550 Needles ETHICON INC 17 Nov 1975 [18 Nov 1974] 47263/75 Heading D1G In a needle-suture combination comprising a needle 11 and a fluid-swellable suture 14. the end of which is held in a recess 13 by swaging, the swaged portion of the recess has a cross-sectional area of from 150 to 250 per cent of that of the suture when the latter is in a dry non-swollen state before swaging. The space in the recess allows for expansion of the suture when it becomes wet and reduces the variation of the pull-out value of the needle-suture combination with changes in the moisture content of the suture.
