Abstract
1517090 Valves NORTHVALE (ENG) Ltd 24 Dec 1976 54062/76 Heading F2V The diaphragm (22) of a non-return valve (10, Fig. 1, not shown) of the type having an apertured hollow conical seat (19) and a hollow conically shaped diaphragm secured therein, is moulded so as to give at least a portion of the length a non-circular cross-section (e.g. as shown) to pre-stress the diaphragm to ensure uniform distortion away from the seat in use. All of the diaphragm may have this shape, the radii of the holes 33 at the rim being greater than the radius of the rim 19C of the seat so that the diaphragm distorts to a conical shape when inserted into the seat. Alternatively, Figs. 6-8 (not shown), only a portion of the length, removed from the rim, may have a non- circular cross-section which forms longitudinal grooves (40) through which fluid flows to force the rim to distort to the same shape.
