Abstract

1517012 Facsimile reproduction SIEMENS AG 4 July 1975 [19 July 1974] 28374/75 Heading H4F Jet writing apparauts comprises a jet-emitter to direct a beam of writing fluid of constant strength onto an image registering carrier, displacement means to relatively move the jet and carrier so that a line image (i.e. comprising parallel lines) is drawn on the carrier, and speed modulating means to control the speed of the relative movement so that the image line varies in intensity. The slower the movement across the carrier the denser the line plotted. The carrier, for example a sheet of paper running between rollers (2, 3, Fig. 1 not shown) may either be continuously moving or be stepwise shifted at the end of each line so that the line spacing is constant and of the order of a line width. As described a jet of ink moves transversely to the carrier and its speed is controlled by a circuit (e.g. Fig. 3 not shown) which produces a voltage corresponding to the level of charge on the screen (22) of a charge-storage c.r.t. In another embodiment (Figs. 4 and 5 not shown) the emitter is controlled by pulses causing the emitter to take a given number of equal length steps in each line, the time interval between successive steps being varied according to the density required so that a "dot" image is formed. The length of the steps of a line is chosen by preselecting the amplitude of the pulses and the intensity of the dot is determined by the duration of the pulse. The apparatus may be used to reproduce a stationary television picture or to record the energy spectrum of an EEG trace. An analogue image can be derived from digital information by addition of a D-A converter, and the jet may be caused to write in both directions (R-L and L-R) across the carrier.
