Abstract

1516659 Wave energy position finding MOTOROLA Inc 23 Oct 1975 [18 Nov 1974] 43635/75 Heading H4D In a system, for use e.g. for measuring range between a base and remote station by measuring the delay of a retransmitted signal from the remote station, at the base station, wherein a bi-phase modulated suppressed carrier pseudo-random digitally coded signal is transmitted, the identically coded retransmitted signal having unknown time delay being retrieved at the base station receiver without simultaneous recovery of the suppressed carrier signal, the phase of the retrieved signal being compared with the phase of the transmitted signal to establish the mutual time delay and hence the range to the remote station. In the base-station receiver the received suppressed carrier signal is processed by generating an estimated digital signal having a clock frequency, which is mixed with the received signal, the mixed signal is squared in a frequency doubler circuit, the squared signal then being brought progressively into phase with the estimated digital signal to effect correlation of the estimated signal with the received signal of unknown time delay.
