1303510 Radio navigation COMPAGNIE GENERALE DE GEOPHYSIQUE 4 June 1970 [4 June 1969] 27086/70 Heading H4D A radio navigation system comprises transmitters Fig. la, 1b emitting on frequencies F A , F B , respectively wherein F A =F+f 1 , F B = F+f 2 (f 1 and f 2 being relatively low frequencies) and a receiver, Fig. 2, generating locally (frequency synthesizer 11) signals on f 1 , f 2 , means receiving and heterodyning the received signals (on F A , F B ) with a locally-generated H.F. signal to obtain the f 1 , f 2 navigation signals (mixers 3, 5), and means comparing the phases of the navigation and locally-generated f 1 , f 2 signals to give receiver position; equiphase curves are circles. Oscillators G A , G B are atomic to give high-stability e.g. 1 part in 10<SP>11</SP>; and in an example F = 2 MHz, f 1 = 80Hz, f 2 = 200Hz. There may be a third transmitting station. To eliminate ambiguity there are transmitted additionally, and simultaneously or sequentially F A <SP>1</SP>=F<SP>1</SP>+f 1 from A and F B <SP>1</SP>=F<SP>1</SP>+f 2 from B. and &c.
