Abstract
1516378 Ion-exchange CRANE CO 17 Dec 1975 [18 Dec 1974] 51694/75 Heading B1J A method of treating an anion-exchange resin bed which is contaminated by some cation-exchange resin (e.g. a bed incompletely separated from a mixed bed), and which has been regenerated by an alkali thereby converting the cation-exchange resin to alkalimetal type, comprises treating the regenerated bed with hydrazine to effect displacement of alkali metal from the cation-exchange resin, the hydrazine being in aqueous solution which after use is purified by being passed through a bed of hydrazine-type cation-exchange resin, whereby the purified hydrazine solution can be re-used. As described a mixed bed is backwashed which separates the two types of resin; the anion-exchange resin is removed to a separate regenerator and regenerated by aqueous caustic soda, then treated with aqueous hydrazine. The hydrazine solution thus acquires sodium ions from traces of cation-exchange resin present, and is treated with a hydrazinetype cation-exchange resin to remove these.
