Abstract

1516332 Adhesive coated films STAUFFER CHEMICAL CO 14 Aug 1975 [3 Sept 1974] 33868/75 Heading B2E [Also in Division B5] Sheet material is coated with adhesive for subsequent lamination by bringing two sheets together at the inrunning nip of two squeeze rolls, applying a fluid or solvent-borne adhesive composition simultaneously to the facing surfaces of the sheets immediately prior to their passage between the squeeze rolls, passing the sheets between the rolls and then separating the sheets so that a uniform coating of adhesive is formed on both sheets. The sheets are then laminated by their adhesivecoated surfaces, either to each other or to respective opposite sides of a compatible interlayer. The sheets may be of vinyl (e.g. polyvinyl chloride) or polyethylene film, metallic foil or paper. The interlayer may be a film of the same material or a woven or non-woven fabric e.g. woven glass fibre. Suitable adhesives are volatile solvent based vinyl chloride homopolymers or co-polymers with vinyl acetate or maleic anhydride, or acrylic, epoxy or urethane adhesives, and the adhesives may contain pigments e.g. antimony oxide, calcium carbonate or furnace black. The adhesive may be dried prior to lamination or the sheets laminated while the adhesive is still wet.
