Abstract

1515347 Hot gas engines PHILIPS GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN NV 22 May 1975 [14 June 1974] 22207/75 Heading F1S [Also in Division F4] The invention relates to a hot gas reciprocating machine, which includes a hot gas engine comprising a plurality of working spaces 27 to 30 each of which is connected via an associated supply duct incorporating a non-return valve 48 to 51 which opens towards the working space to a main supply duct 54 for working medium in which a control valve 56 is incorporated and which is connected to a source 55 of pressurized working medium. Between the main supply duct and the supply ducts associated with the working spaces there is interposed a rotary distributer 52 comprising a stationary housing 100 and a rotor 101 which is rotatable in the housing and slidable axially therein and which is coupled to an engine crank-shaft, each of the supply ducts associated with the working spaces being individually connected to an associated outlet port in the housing and the main supply duct 54 being connected to an inlet port 105 in the housing. Means are provided whereby when the control valve is open the rotor is continuously subjected in the axial direction on one side to a pressure which corresponds to the pressure which periodically occurs at a predetermined instant in the thermodynamic cycle in each working space and on the opposite side to the source pressure. The distributer is furthermore arranged so that when the instantaneous cycle pressure is lower than the source pressure the rotor occupies an axial position in which during each revolution of the crank-shaft the rotor brings each of the outlet ports in succession into communication with the inlet port via a duct 102 in the rotor for the period in which the maximum cycle pressure occurs in the working space connected with the respective outlet port and when the instantaneous cycle pressure is higher than the source pressure the rotor occupies a different axial position in which all the outlet ports are continuously in communication with the inlet port. It is alternatively possible to have a radial duct in the rotor which co-operates with radial outlet ports in the wall of the housing 100.
