1515089 Measuring temperature photoelectrically V M KRYLOV J A KOMAROV D V PANCHENKO V P SELJUTIN and N S LIDORENKO 14 July 1976 [22 July 1975] 29286/76 Heading G1A Temperature-measuring apparatus comprises a temperature-sensitive element 1 Fig. 3 constituted by a plate 6 of semi-conductor material having a steep absorption characteristic I, II, Fig. 2 at the wavelength III of a monochromatic light source, one side 8 of the plate 6 Fig. 3 having a reflective coating 9, the other side of the plate 6 being rigidly attached (e.g. by epoxy resin) to one end of a fibre-optic light guide 2 Figs. 3 and 1, whose other end 11, 12 is connected to the source 5 and to a photo-detector 3. The coating 9 is an aluminium film applied e.g. by vacuum or electrolysis. An infrared Ga-As diode source 5 may be combined with an indium phosphide plate 6; or a Ga-As laser 5 with a Ga-As plate 6. The curves I, II, Fig. 2, represent the edge of the semi-conductor absorption curve at normal and elevated temperatures respectively.
