1514649 Ultrasonic monitoring apparatus E D KRYLOVA and N I BRAZHNIKOV 14 Oct 1976 42772/76 Heading G1G A physical characteristic of a fluid in a pipe, e.g. flow-rate, pressure, density, is monitored by transmitting ultrasonic vibrations through a sound conducting medium and through the wall of the pipe at an angle of incidence α determined by the relationship: - where Co is the velocity of propogation of ultrasonic vibrations in the sound conducting medium, and C is that in the material of the pipe wall, the frequency f of the vibrations being determined by the relationship:- where n is an integer and d is the thickness of the pipe wall, and receiving the ultrasonic vibrations after transmission through the pipe.
