Abstract

1327651 Acoustic measurement of fluid flow UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY 14 April 1972 [19 April 1971] 10026/71 Heading H4D A fluid velocity measuring apparatus incorporates a reflector between a spaced transmitter and receiver of pressure waves, the reflector being displaced from the line joining the transmitter and receiver. The arrangement is incorporated into the system described in Specification 1,285,175 (see Division H4) in order to prevent interference from turbulence caused by inserting the transducers in the fluid flow. The reflector may be a brass or stainless steel plate or a flat surface on a cylindrical rod. The fluid velocity is determined from a comparison of transit times in opposite directions along the flow direction.
