Abstract

The device is for measurement of fluid flow in a pipe (10). A vortex generator, i.e. an obstacle (11) is portioned transversely in the pipe and a differential (32) pressure sensor is placed outside the pipe and connected to two pressure valves (24,25) one in each of the two regions (22,23) where the vortex generation takes place alternatively. The alternating pressure variation resulting from the vortex emissions acting on the sensor are converted into a signal whose frequency represents the flow to be measured. The sensor may be linked to the pressure valves on the obstacle by flexible pipes (30,31). The sensor may be mounted in a floating manner on the pipe using an elastic system which acts as a mechanical filter for isolating any stray vibrations which may be propagating in the pipe.
