Abstract
1514379 Processing molten materials F GAGNERAUD 14 Oct 1976 [24 Sept 1975] 42722/76 Heading CIK [Also in Divisions C7 and F4] A device for producing a uniform discharge of molten material comprises a basin 10 with surplus material discharge weir 15 and a rim 17 for material to flow over as a thin film 19. The maximum depth of molten material flowing over the rim 17 corresponds to the difference in height 'd' between the weir 15 and the rim 17. When the device is used for metallurgical slag, a feed table 20 may be fitted downstream of the basin 10 and an aperture 16 may be fitted to the basin for eliminating melt possibly carried along in the stream of slag. Slag film falling on the feed table 20 passes to mechanical means 18 to produce a granulated slag. The main duct 1 for supplying molten material to the basin 10 may have branch openings leading to cooling pits so that moltem material may be diverted in the event of machinery breakdown.
