Abstract

1514048 Glass fibre manufacture OWENSCORNING FIBERGLAS CORP 3 Sept 1976 36659/76 Heading C1M To ensure separation of the glass streams flowing from the orifices in a feeder plate in a glass fibre forming process, a carbonaceous gas is directed into a region below the feeder plate and allowed to undergo incomplete combustion yielding particles of carbon. As shown a burner manifold 50 encloses a region immediately below the feeder plate 19, and is supplied with gas or a gas air mixture which flows out through an annular orifice 58 in the manifold where it spontaneously ignites due to the high temperature environment. An enclosure 45 depends from the manifold 50 to further shield the fibres as they are drawn.
