1513732 Heated rollers A E WILDEMAN 23 May 1975 [4 May 1974] 19691/74 Heading F2U A heated roller comprises a heater or heat exchanger in a fluid heat transfer medium immediately beneath the working surface of the roller, the heater or heat exchanger having a surface area in the fluid greater than that of the working surface. As shown, a vapour phase heat transfer medium is contained in the space 13 between inner and outer shells 12, 11 supported by spokes 23 from manifold hubs 18, 19 and heat exchange tubes 15 are circulated with oil or other liquid by a pump 27, the temperature being raised by electric resistance elements 29 controlled by a sensor 32. The tubes 15 may be arranged to direct the flow axially towards or away from the ends of the roller from or towards the middle or in helical or wavy paths. Alternatively, the tubes may comprise electric resistance elements.
