Abstract

1513594 Feeding sheets E V HENC 8 June 1976 23580/76 Heading B8R A pile of sheets B, Fig. 2, is supported on a plurality of freely rotatable rollers 20, Figs. 1 and 2, arranged in a plurality of rows or extending across the width of the sheets, the lowermost sheet LB is separated from the bottom of the pile by separators 42 engaging its trailing edge, mounted on a reciprocating bar 14 and raised into operative position by an air piston 30 controlled by a solenoid actuated selectively to produce regular feed or feed/skip operation, and the sheet is held down against the rollers by reduced air pressure between the rollers, due to one or more suction chambers 10 below the rollers. Alternate rollers 20 may be slightly staggered vertically to produce a sinuous path. The frontmost roller may have a larger diameter or be arranged slightly higher than the others. An adjustable back stop, Fig. 9 (not shown) may be provided to accommodate sheets of different lengths. Means are provided to seal off from atmosphere parts of the vacuum chambers which are not in use.
