Abstract

1513549 Tractor/trailer braking system MASSEY - FERGUSON - PERKINS LTD 30 Sept 1975 [2 Oct 1974 4 Oct 1974] 42839/74 and 43263/74 Headings F2E and F2F Trailer fluid power brakes are controlled by a valve 22 having a body 30, supported by pedals 13, 14 for individual tractor rear wheel brakes, and a valve spool 31 actuated through a spring 32 from an abutment 23 controlled by a further pedal 24 pivotally supported by the pedals 13, 14. The plate 20, on which the further pedal 24 is adjustably mounted, may be rigidly (as shown) or pivotally secured to the pedals 13, 14. The hydraulic system includes a pressure line 35 supplied by a reservoir 45 and pump 52, a return line 36 and a line 37 to at least one actuator 49. The valve spool 31 is subject to a pedal force from the spring 32 opposed by a spring 33 and braking pressure in a chamber 34 connected to the brake line 37 through a restriction 42 and fast drain line 43. Movement of the spool 31 from the position shown cuts off the fast drain line 43, then the return part 40 and finally connects the pressure line 35 to the actuator 49. The increasing pressure in the chamber 34 mould the spool to the right cutting off the pressure line 35, leaving the spool balanced between the force of spring 32, which is communicated to the pedal 27 and the spring 33 and fluid pressure in the chamber 24.
