Abstract

1513526 Dye dispersions; coloured polyurethanes IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 20 Jan 1977 [26 Jan 1976] 2888/76 Heading C3R A method of forming a dispersion of a waterinsoluble organic dye containing at least one isocyanate-reactive group in a polymeric polyol comprises mixing the dye in the form of an aqueous paste with the polymeric polyol and, if necessary, separating the polyol phase from the aqueous phase, e.g. by distillation. Suitable dyes are of the azo, anthraquinone and nitroseries, especially disperse dyes. The polyols usually have from 2-8 hydroxyl groups and molecular weights of from 300-10,000, and may be polyester or polyether polyols, e.g. polyoxypropylene polyols and poly (oxypropyleneoxyethylene)polyols. The dispersions can be reacted with organic polyisocyanates, e.g. tolylene diisocyanate and diphenylmethane diisocyanate, optionally in conjunction with polyols that do not contain dispersed dye and optionally with conventional ingredients of polyurethane systems, to form coloured polyurethanes, particularly coloured cellular polyurethanes. In the examples dye dispersions are prepared as above from a polypropylene glycol of M. Wt. 2000 and an aqueous paste of a dye of the formulae the water being subsequently removed by distillation. The resulting dispersions are used to make microcellular polyurethane shoe soles.
