Abstract

1513416 Anaerobic pretreatment of effluents CIBA GEIGY AG 17 July 1975 [18 July 1974] 30070/75 Heading C1C Aqueous effluents are subjected, before aerobic treatment, to a pretreatment process under anaerobic conditions with microorganisms on an inert carrier. Effluent components which are not aerobically degradable are thus converted to a degradable form. The effluent may be sewage, and may contain Cu and Zn ions. Effluent may be fed upwards through the carrier, which may be fluidized. The carrier may be coal, coke, slag, porous stones, ceramics or preferably granulated active carbon. The anaerobic treatment may be carried out at 10-40‹C. (20-30‹C.), pH 6-8 (pH7), for 10 mins. to 10 hours (0À5 to 3 hours).
