Abstract

1513314 Dual focus objectives RANK ORGANISATION Ltd 13 Jan 1977 [16 Feb 1976] 06043/76 Heading G2J As described, a catadiaoptric objective comprises the following stationary components, a front annular lens L I ; a first annular concave reflector M I ; a first central reflector M II ; a lens arrangement L III , L IV , L V ; a second annular concave reflector M III ; a second annular central reflector M IV ; a lens component L VI ; shutters S1-S3: and an axially moveable annular lens L II . Long focal length (bottom of Fig.). The moveable annular lens L II is adjacent front lens L I and the pair is substantially afocal. Light is reflected from mirrors M I M II to the lens combination L III - L VI and thence via lens L VI to the focal plane. Short focal length (top of Fig.). The moveable lens L II is adjacent mirror M I . Light is converged by front lens to miss mirror M I but to pass through an annular area of lens combination L IV L V . Subsequently light is focused at the focal plane by the further catoptric system M III M IV and common lens L VI . DATA for both configurations are given. The optical arrangement may be such that the moveable lens is operative in the short focal length configuration only. Margin type reflectors may be used.
