Abstract
1513294 Removing pathogenic germs and dissolved organic materials from aqueous liquids K H HARTKORN 28 July 1975 [29 July 1974] 31449/75 Heading C1C Pathogenic germs and dissolved organic materials are removed from an aqueous liquid by adding Kefir lactic acid bacteria thereto and then setting temperature and pH values whereby the bacteria feed on the pathogenic germs and dissolved organic material and remove them from the liquid. The aqueous liquid may be pretreated electrochemically or chemically and also after-treated electrochemically to remove residual germs and colloidally suspended matter. The treatment with Kefir lactic acid bacteria may take place in an aerobic activated sludge plant comprising a percolating filter column containing filler bodies of large surface area e.g. cylindrically formed webs of non- magnetic rust free steel, and optionally containing conventional aerobic microorganisms. Multiple passage of liquid through the column is possible.
