1513234 3 - Perfluoroalkyl - 1,2 - epoxypropanes DAIKAN KOGYO CO Ltd 5 May 1977 [6 May 1976] 18864/77 Heading C2C 3 - Perfluoroalkyl - 1,2 - epoxypropanes are prepared by reacting 3-perfluoroalkyl-2-iodopropanol-1 with an alkali metal hydroxide in an aqueous medium in the presence of a quaternary ammonium compound. The most preferred catalysts are C 10 -C 20 alkyl or alkenyl-tri(C 1-3 alkyl)ammonium hydroxides or chlorides and tri(C 2-3 alkyl)benzylammonium hydroxides or chlorides, used in an amount of 0À0001-0À15 mole per mole of the iodopropanol. Usually 1-2 equivalents of NaOH or KOH per mole of iodopropanol are used as a 0À1-30 wt.% aqueous solution, and a temperature of 60- 100‹ C. is adopted. In the Examples (CF 3 ) CF(CF 2 ) 6 CH 2 CH-o-CH 2 is prepared.
