Abstract

1512640 Vehicle container loading EEZION Ltd 11 Dec 1975 [12 Dec 1974] 53729/74 Heading B8Q [Also in Division B7] In a vehicle carrying a demountable unit, jacking and pivot means located at the front and rear of a platform of the vehicle are releasably connected to the respective front and rear of the demountable unit. The demountable unit may be in the form of a welded high wall container as shown in Fig. 1, or a flat stillage framework, Fig. 7. In either case the base thereof has a mounting piece 46 at its front end and a pair of pivot stubs 29 at the rear. In order to mount the unit on the vehicle the latter is reversed so that the rear edge of the vehicle platform abuts retractable legs (not shown) on the unit which pivot upwardly. Wheels 59, 60, 61, 62 mounted on the unit roll on the surface and sides 24 of the platform 12 and the reversing movement is terminated when mounting piece 46 enters between box section mountings 42, 43 of the tipping arrangement. Pins 45 Fig. 5, are inserted through the mountings for securing the front end of the unit to the jack 50. In this position pivot stubs 29 at the rear of the unit drop into slots 25 provided in plates 24 of the platform 12 and are secured by hooks 30. In order to pivot the unit, screws 48 are slackened and swung away from solid bar 47 and hydraulic jack 50 operated via feed pipe 52. The movable portion of jack 50 is pivotally connected by trunnions 53 which pass into bosses 54 carried by the side plates 36 to which the mountings 42, 43 are secured. The demountable unit may have rear legs (not shown) which move vertically into box shaped brackets welded to the unit. The suspension including a pivoted framework 13, 15, 16 and leaf spring 18 both connected to the axle 14, is raised and lowered by hydraulic arm 21 which may be operated from the engine or by a hand-operated pump located on the platform.
