Abstract

1512271 Winding wire on eccentric formers; tensioning PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 20 May 1975 [31 May 1974] 21474/75 Heading DID To maintain the tension in wire being wound onto a former which is asymmetrical with respect to its rotation axis, the wire is formed into a loop between two flat walls by a gas jet, and means detect the position of the loop to adjust a wire-braking device so that when the loop size exceeds a max. the wire is braked to a stop and when the loop size falls below a min. the wire is completely unbraked. Wire 4, Fig. 1, being wound onto former 2 is formed into loop 4a between flat plates by air from duct 16. One of the plates has openings 20 each connected by a duct 21 to a separate pneumatic wire brake 23. When the loop expands as the speed of the wire decreases, further openings 20 communicate with the pressurised air within the loop to increase wire braking. The pressurised air may act on a wire engaging wheel 25, Fig: 3, slidable between the plates.
