Abstract
1511586 Controlling light BBC BROWN BOVERI & CO Ltd 18 Sept 1975 [20 Sept 1974] 38385/75 Heading G2F A display device comprises a polarizer between a liquid crystal cell, e.g. an electro-optic nematic "twist" cell, and a reflector formed of bronze paint i.e. comprising flaky metallic pigment. The paint may be coated on the polarizer or on a further substrate. The pigment may comprise A1 powder, goldcoloured Cu or Cu-Zn alloys or silver coloured Cu-Zn-Ni alloys and may be heated in iron pans to give other colours ("temper tints") or mixed with tar colourants for the same purpose. Suitable binders are proposed. The paint may be applied by screen or roll printing. A further layer of a transparent (but coloured) paint may be provided between the polarizer and reflector. Different parts of the device may thereby be caused to have different colours.
