1510855 Dehydrogenating hydrocarbons UOP INC 3 Sept 1975 36220/75 Heading CSE Hydrocarbons are catalytically dehydrogenated in the presence of added water, the amount of water admixed with the feed being increased as the temperature required to maintain a pre-selected conversion per pass increases. In particular, C 5 -C 18 n-paraffins are dehydrogenated to the corresponding n-olefins with a catalyst comprising a Pt component and an alkali or alkaline earth metal component, e.g. Li supported on porous alumina. The catalyst may also contain germanium. The reaction temperature may be 430-540‹C. An initial water content of 5-25 wt. ppm may be increased to 25-125 wt. ppm after at least 40% of the catalyst lifespan.
