Abstract

1510781 Aminoplast adhesive hardening systems BRITISH INDUSTRIAL PLASTICS Ltd 14 April 1975 [18 April 1974] 16905/74 Heading C3R An aminoplast resin adhesive is cured by adding to it separate or combined aqueous solutions of (i) a water-soluble sulphate or phosphate of ammonium or a metal of group Ia or IIa of the Periodic Table, and (ii) a watersoluble sulphate or chloride of Al, Cu<II> or Fe<II>, in a weight ratio of (i) : (ii) of 5 : 95 to 97À5 : 2À5. Preferred combinations are NH4CI with CuSO4, (NH4)2SO4 with CuSO4 or AlCl3, NH4H2PO4 with the same or CuCl2 or A2(SO4)3, and Na, K or Mg dihydrogen phosphate with the Cu or Al salts or FeSO4. Particularly described is the use of 15% aqueous NH4H2PO4 and 15 or 20% Al2(SO4)3 with a 68% syrup of a resin of urea : formaldehyde molar ratio 1 : 1-88 mixed with 25 or 31 % (of the syrup) of china clay and 15 or 6À5% water.
