Abstract
1510692 Railway vehicle draught and buffing gear KEYSTONE INDUSTRIES Inc 28 April 1975 [30 April 1974] 17625/75 Heading B7T A railway car is provided with an hydraulic cushioning unit 17 for cushioning draught and buffing forces applied to the railway car by the shank 18 of a railway car coupler (16), Fig. 1 (not shown). The cushioning unit 17 comprises a piston-rod 33 carrying a piston (not shown) axially movable in a housing 34 which is restrained against axial movement by the engagement of lugs 52, 53 of a cylinder head 51 in vertically extending slots 61 of castings 57, 58 mounted in openings 54, 55 provided in side walls 11, 12 of the centre sill 10 of the railway car. The cylinder head 51 is supported on blocks 73 located on plates 71 bolted to horizontal flanges 14 of the sill 10. Draught forces are transmitted from the coupler shank 18 through a pivot pin 21 and a yoke 19 to a plate 32 secured to the piston-rod 32. Buffing forces are transmitted from the coupler shank 18 through a follower 31 and the plate 32 to the piston-rod 33. Movement of the yoke 19 is limited by engagement of the yoke with stops 82 or with the end face 87 of a further cylinder head 74. Return spring assembly.-The railway car is also provided with a return spring assembly 90 which urges the yoke towards its forward position. The spring assembly 90 comprises a bar 113 which is engaged by a lug 46 of the plate 32 and which is secured to laterally spaced tubes 111 mounted around respective sets of springs 93.
