Abstract

1510651 Photographic silver halide solvents POLAROID CORP 22 April 1975 [23 April 1974 1 April 1975] 16669/75 Heading G2C An aqueous alkaline photographic processing composition contains a silver halide solvent which forms a silver complex soluble in the aqueous alkaline solution, and which comprises (a) a functional group having an O, N or C atom that ionizes to the corresponding O#, No or C# anion in the alkaline solution and (b) a functional group have an -S- containing moiety, excluding -SH and moieties that form -SH in alkaline solution, wherein the S is positioned alpha, beta, gamma, delta, epsilon or zeta to the anion. (a) may be derived from a 2-amino-4-hydroxy-1,3,5-triazine, 1,2,3,4-tetrazole, 5-pyrazolone, 1,3-disulphonylalkane, sulphonamido derivative of an amino acid or 2,4- or 4,6-dihydroxypyrimidine. (b) may be derived from a thioether group or a thien-2-yl group or other cyclic S- containing group. The processing composition may be used for fixing or in the silver salt diffusion transfer process. The silver halide solvent may be incorporated in a silver halide material, in which case it is solubilized in the processing composition during processing.
