Abstract

151,049. Struben, A. M. A. May 16, 1919. Joist floors; reinforced-concrete girders and beams; double walls; columns.-Relates to floors and ceilings of the kind constructed with slabs. blocks, &c. of concrete placed side by side and supported by concrete beams formed in situ by filling with concrete the space between the slabs or blocks and premoulded troughs, which may be arranged to form a system of main and secondary beams. The slabs, which may be of reinforced or plain concrete, are provided with two flanges a, Fig. 13, joined at intervals by gusset stays z, and may be provided with a continuous or apertured central web. The flanges may be of unequal width and the lower or both flanges reinforced with expanded metal, wire netting, steel or wood rods, or other suitable material. As shown in Fig. 10, the ends of the slabs may be shaped to form a more solid construction. The troughs for the beams may be of reinforced or plain concrete, or of steel, wood or other material and may be arranged to form a system of main and secondary beams, as shown in Fig. 11. Reinforcing bars and stirrups are laid in the troughs where desired. The troughs may be removed after filling or left in place as a covering. In the Provisional Specification, it is stated that walls may be constructed of slabs a, Fig. 1, provided with flanges b and filling-grooves c; that quoin blocks d. angle blocks f, corner blocks f<1>, door or window blocks and mullions, and flue blocks are provided with grooves formed by flanges e to support and bind adjacent portions of the building with hidden joints; that columns are formed from hollow blocks filled with concrete and provided with similar grooves; and that beams for door or window openings are formed of U-shaped blocks n, Fig. 4, filled with concrete and reinforced by bars p.
