Abstract
1510145 Finishing keratinous materials CIBA-GEIGY AG 18 March 1976 [3 April 1975] 13580/75 Heading DIP [Also in Divi sion C3] Keratinious materials are finished to impart shrink resistance and durably pressed properties with a composition comprising: (A) a compound: in which a and b are each 0 or 1 but are not the same; c is 0 or an integer; d is 0 or 1; e is 1 to 6; R, R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>3</SP> and R<SP>4</SP> are each saturated aliphatic groups, which may be straight or branched chain and which may be substituted by alkyl, aryl, haloalkyl, hydroxyl, mercaptan or carboxyl groups and which may be interrupted by -O- or -OCO- units, the aliphatic groups being linked by C atoms to the said ether or ester groups; at least one of R to R<SP>4</SP> contains at least one mercaptan group and the average molecule contains more than two mercaptan groups; when e is 1 at least one of R to R<SP>4</SP> contains a carboxyl group; (B) a solely tertiary amine; and (C) an organic solvent. A typical (A) is a polymercaptan where p has an average value of 22.5. (B) may be analcoholic hydroxyl containing amine prepared by addition of alkylene oxide to a primary or secondary amine, e.g. N, N- diethylethanolamine or tri-n-propanolamine. (C) may be at least 1% by wt. soluble in water at 25‹C, examples are benzyl alcohol, dipropylene glycol, n-propanol, 2-methoxyethanol, diacetone alcohol, 2-ethoxyethyl acetate, bis (2-ethoxyethyl) ether or 2-butoxyethanol. Aqueous solutions for wool treatment may be prepared by diluting the above solutions with water and the resultant solutions may contain 0.025-10% by wt. of the tertiary amine salt obtained by reaction of (A) and (B).
