Abstract

The injection moulding machine comprises a rotating screw (2) which is moved axially by means of a hydraulic piston (6) and thereby forces the plasticated polymer into the injection mould (9). In the mould (9) a pressure measuring element (14) is arranged close to the sprue, which pressure measuring element (14) controls the hydraulic pressure to the piston (6) by means of a controller (13) and a servo valve (11). During solidification of the melt in the mould (9), this hydraulic pressure increases because of the viscosity increase and the contraction of the plastic. This pressure rise is registered by a second pressure measuring element (line 12), by means of which the start of the solidification phase can be precisely ascertained. The holding pressure time will automatically end an adjustable period of time after this pressure rise. The cycle time can thus be optimised. <IMAGE>
