Abstract

1508997 Electric connectors RAYCHEM SA NV 20 May 1975 [23 May 1974] 23088/74 Heading H2E A connector (suitable for connecting a coaxial cable to the surface of a circuit board) comprises a first hollow member 2 with two ends, a conductor 6 therein or integral therewith extending beyond the second end 5, the first end 4 being open and slidably retained within an end of a second hollow member 3 having two open ends, the second member having retained therein or being integral with a conductor 10 extending beyond one of its ends, the conductors 6, 10 being mutually insulated. As shown, sleeves 2, 3 are of heat-shrinkable material and hold a tinned phosphor bronze pin 6, 10 sandwiched between the sleeve and a ring 7, 9 of solder. A row of connectors may be assembled with their pins fitted in brackets 8, 13. The first end 4 is enlarged to retain it in the sleeve 3; the latter may have a thermoplastic ring (14a-14d) to hold the pin 10 and retain the ring 9 on fusion. The broken lines indicate how the sleeves slide relatively to vary the spacing of the pins 6, 10 to suit the hole spacing of a circuit board. A third sleeve and conductor can be slidably retained on the second sleeve. Alternatively, the hollow members 2, 3 may be crimpable metal sleeves integral with the respective conductors 6, 10, and mutually insulated by, e.g. a heat shrinkable sleeve; the members may be of closed or slit circular cross-section, C- or U- shape, or square. The spacing of the members 2, 3 can be chosen to provide a desired impedance.
