Abstract

1508739 Livestock carrier C K HANSEN 1 Nov 1976 [28 Nov 1975] 45301/76 Heading B7A A method of converting an oil tanker into a carrier for livestock comprises erecting a multistoreyed superstructure 10 consisting of a plurality of rows of pens in each storey on the deck 2 of the tanker. The superstructure is formed by columns 11 fastened to the deck by flanges and interconnected by horizontal transverse girders 12a, 13a and longitudinal girders 12b, 13b to form pens 14. Corridors 15 and 16 extend alongside two storeys to provide access to two rows of pens 14. Containers 22 are connected by pneumatic conveyers with storage tanks for the supply of food pellets for the livestock, e.g. sheep, and taps 21 supply drinking water. Canals 24 are arranged below the corridors for the removal of manure. The sides of the pens 14 are closed by grids 23. A roof 17 covers the superstructure. Some of the oil tanks can be converted into storage tanks for food and water.
