Abstract
1508579 Building panels O A BECKER 30 Dec 1974 [31 Dec 1973] 55980/74 Heading E1B A load bearing building panel comprises two outer wall elements 3a and 3b defining with a peripheral edge seal 10 at least one hollow space therebetween and having flanged edge portions extending inwardly toward one another and connected together and to at least one inner wall element 9m by interconnecting means 11, a reduced pressure being produced in the wall element at least in the hollow space adjacent each outer wall element so as to tend to flex the outer walls inwardly to force the flanged edge portions apart and tension the inner wall element. The inner and outer wall elements are made up of composite or single metal plates 5, 6, 9 coated with plastics or rubber foils 7 and are preferably spaced apart by cellular honeycomb load bearing plates 8. In fanufacturing the panels the components are assembled together and the spaces shown between the wall elements and the honeycombs are maintained during evacuation either by screws which pass hermetically through all the wall elements or by applying an excess pressure to the outer wall elements. This latter method may be carried out in situ on the building panel by applying a box like element 20' to the outer face of the panel and by evacuating the space H4 as well as evacuating the space H2 between the wall element 36 and the inner cladding of the wall. The method of holding the elements spaced is also applied to panels including honeycombs and inner structural wall elements wherein the inner element in not necessarily engaged by the means interconnecting the flanged edge portions. Reference is made to prior Specifications 1218332 and 1366503, 1487342 and 1501880.
