Abstract

1508479 Vehicle pneumatic braking SOC UNIC FIAT SA 18 June 1975 [19 June 1974] 25981/75 Heading F2F To vent the automatic air-pressure-released brakes of a trailer or semi-trailer on rupture of the trailer service brake line 4 of a tractortrailer combination, a valve 8 is provided with a spool element subject on opposing radial end faces to pressure, (through a line 12) from a tractor service brake line 1 or 2 and the trailer service line reservoirs (through a line 14) to selectively connect a line 7 to the trailer automatic brake to either a reservoir 5 or to atmosphere 15. As shown the line 14 is connected to the reservoir 5 and to the line 4 via a pilot valve 3. If there is a rupture in the line 4 the reservoir 5 will be drained on brake application until the spool 11 is moved to vent the line 7 and thus apply the pressure-release trailer brakes. A spring 13 may act on the spool 11 together with the pressure from the line 14. In alternatives (Figs. 3, 4, not shown) the pressure in line 4 is controlled directly by a two-circuit or three-circuit brake control valve.
