Abstract

1508281 Making lubricating grease EXXON RESEARCH & ENG CO 11 Feb 1977 [16 Feb 1976] 05979/76 Heading C5F In the manufacture of lubricating greases, foaming during atmospheric pressure saponification is reduced by carrying out the saponification in the presence of at least part of the base oil (e.g. a paraffinic oil) and a minor amount of a metal sulphonate additive which is soluble or dispersible in the base oil and/or saponification components. The saponification components may be hydrogenated castor oil and LiOH, and the metal sulphonate may be a sodium petroleum sulphonate in amount 0À05-0À5 wt. percent.
