Abstract

The cavity cell is of the type comprising at least one pair of flat supports (10, 11) which are joined together along their edges, between which there is formed a cavity to accommodate a liquid crystal, and a plurality of spacers (13) having a thickness equal to that of the cavity and distributed between the adjacent surfaces of the two supports (10, 11). Within the supports (10, 11) there are created internal tensions which maintain the adjacent surfaces pressed one against the other via the spacers (13). This has the objective of rigorously controlling the thickness of the cavity, of diminishing the effect of the undulations and/or surface roughnesses of the supports, of proceeding in such a manner that the cell offers resistance to mechanical and/or thermal stresses tending to cause a variation in the thickness of the cavity of the cell. <IMAGE>
