1507054 Preparation of 2-hydroxynaphthalene-3-carboxylic acid HOECHST AG 4 June 1975 [4 June 1974 17 May 1975] 24107/75 Heading C2C The invention comprises a process for the preparation of 2 - hydroxynaphthalene - 3- carboxylic acid in which CO 2 is reacted with a solution of an alkali metal salt of 2-hydroxynaphthalene in 2-hydroxynaphthalene while stirring at elevated temperature and pressure, in which the conversion rate is at least 40% based on alkali metal salt of 2-hydroxynaphthalene and in which the stirrer equipment and/ or speed are chosen so that thorough and homogeneous mixing of the liquid and gaseous reactants ensues.
