Abstract

1506105 Mechanical interrupters FSTENNER 13 Feb 1976 [13 Feb 1975] 5720/76 Heading H1N A programme switch comprises at least one pair of rotary cams 116, 118, and cam followers 120, 122 coupled to an actuator 114a for actuating contacts in a sequence determined by the cams, the actuator and contacts being mounted on a support plate 448 continuously adjustable in a radial direction relative to the circumferential surface of the cams and carrying biasing means 444 for the actuator 114a, the support plate being resiliently biased towards the cams by a force greater than that needed to operate the actuator. As shown the followers are adjustable around the cams as in Specification 1,480,312. The plate 448 is of spring steel and is adjustable by screw 461 but can be moved resiliently outwards as a protection device in the event of abnormal forces occurring due to breakage, deformation or intrusion of foreign bodies. The plate 448 preferably has a slightly obtuse angled foot 448a such that when substantially right-angled by adjusting screw 461 it is pre-stressed by more than nine times the normal operating force of the switch. Alternatively the support plate may be hinged to casing floor 146 and pre-stressed by a torsion spring in the hinge.
