Abstract

1505731 Pocket wheel feeders for granular material WESTINGHOUSE BRAKE & SIGNAL CO Ltd 11 Dec 1975 [15 Jan 1975] 1678/75 Heading B8S A valve comprises a cylindrical chamber 1 having an inlet 2 and an outlet 3, a rotor comprising a hub 4 and vanes 9 being mounted for rotation in the chamber 1 under the action of a motor (not shown) about the hub axis, the inlet 2 being formed as a passage which transforms from a generally elliptical or specifically circular cross-section at the edge 5 of a flange 6 at the upper end of the inlet, to a generally four-sided cross-section of at least equivalent effective area at its lower end, shown as (7) in Fig. 1 (not shown). In use, the flange 6 is attached to the lower end of a frusto-conical hopper (not shown) while the outlet 3 forms part of a pressurized pipeline for conveying away material fed thereto from the hopper through the valve.
