Abstract
1505359 Washing filter cake EXXON RESEARCH & ENG CO 21 March 1975 [29 March 1974] 11936/75 Headings B1D and B2F Filter cake on the outside of a rotary filter drum 13 is washed with minimal disturbance by liquid from a distributor tube extending parallel to the drum axis, the tube 15 having upwardly directed holes 15a which deliver the wash liquid into an arcuate space formed between the tube and an impervious cover 17, extending 270‹ round the tube and spaced therefrom by a wire mesh or sintered metal layer 16, an outer helical wire 18 catching the liquid as it flows round the tube and out of the space and causing it to drop onto the drum 13 as a series of streams which break up (12a) as they fall to reform as a single narrow pool extending axially along the cake. The liquid is supplied to the tube 15 at 3 p.s.i.g. or more, the resulting kinetic energy being largely dissipated by the flow resistance of the holes and wire mesh 16. Several tubes 15 may be spaced round the drum to operate in parallel. Holes 15a may be 0.015 to 0.025 inches dia. and one inch apart, and the turns of wire 18 are one half inch apart.
