Abstract

150,454. Mann, H. C., and Chemical Engineering & Wilton's Patent Furnace Co. June 11, 1919. Fire-bars and grates; air, supplying.-Transverse fire-bars having holes adapted to form conduits for the passage of air under pressure to the furnace are provided with one series of holes a, Fig. 1, which form conduits delivering air directly to the fuel bed through passages c and another series of holes e, f provided with spigots and sockets so as to form conduits communicating with a chamber j, Fig. 7, in the fire-bridge k. Forced draught supplied through the conduit formed by the holes e passes to the chamber j and returns through the conduits formed by the holes f to a chamber m at the front of the furnace. Air passes from the chamber m through perforated pipes n, p, to the space above and beyond the grate. The pipe p may lead directly from the chamber j as shown in dotted lines.
