Abstract

1504370 Blood analysis apparatus INSTRUMENTATION LABORATORY SpA 27 June 1975 [8 Nov 1974] 27366/75 Heading G1N [Also in Division F2] Apparatus for analysing blood comprises O 2 , CO 2 and pH sensors mounted in the same enclosure and a valve which allows simultaneous calibration of the pH sensor and the O 2 and CO 2 sensors by a buffer solution and gas respectively while maintaining the two calibrating fluid circuits separate. Preheaters and humidifiers for the gases are also included. As shown, the apparatus comprises O 2 sensor a, CO 2 sensor b, pH sensor c connected to reference cell d via membrane m, buffer pH solution sources Ph, P'h with associated heaters h, i and reference gas sources MG, M'G' with associated humidifiers u,u'. Cleansing fluid is supplied from LL and waste flows to LS. The sample inlets are f or f'. The system is controlled by programmer T which operates pumps M, valves E', E" and main valve g, which has four operating positions gA to gD corresponding to the different sample inputs and calibrating stages. The valve g is rotary (see division F2) and associated with an optical encoder which feeds back the valve position to programmer T. The valve is thermostatically controlled and has a very small volume. Preferably the enclosure is transparent.
